Differentials & Transfer cases
The differential has a hard life, it rotates the outside driven wheel on your vehicle faster than the inside driven wheel to improve the cornering and performance of your vehicle whilst maintaining your tyre's maximum usable life. Without it your tyres would wear prematurely. During this process torque is transferred from the centre drive shaft, through 90 degrees to the driveshaft that turn the vehicles wheels.

We supply new and reconditioned car differentials, drive shafts and prop shafts. We recondition and rebuild here at our Rosebery workshop.

Drive-line Services
The drive-train serves two functions: it transfers power evenly from the engine to all drive wheels and it varies the amount of torque. The drive-train may include the differential, a transfer case (in four-wheel and all-wheel drive cars) and the transmission.

Differential Service
When your wheels are turning, your car's differential is hard at work adjusting for the different paths of the inside and outside wheels so that undue slippage doesn't occur. The differential fluid's job is to lubricate gears, bearings and shafts in this system. Our Differential Service replaces the old, depleted fluid with new.

The differential is the mechanical component that spins both the left and right wheels, but lets them rotate at different speeds so that the vehicle can make turns. When a vehicle makes a turn, the outer wheel has to turn faster than the inner wheel, due to the difference in the length of the paths they take. The differential is located between the two wheels, and is attached to each wheel by an axle shaft. Four-wheel drive vehicles have a separate differential for each pair of wheels, connected through a transfer case.

Transfer Case Service
Transfer cases are found on four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive vehicles. This gearbox divides the transmission power output between the rear differential and the front differential. Most transfer cases allow the front wheels to be disengaged and spin freely during normal driving conditions. When desired, power is transferred to all four wheels. Transfer case fluid provides lubrication to gears, bearings, shafts, and other internal components. It is important to keep your transfer case serviced and not forgotten as repairs can be very costly.
